I'm a software engineer at Civis Analytics, a data science startup in Chicago. I recently graduated from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA, where I majored in computer science, and tinkered with power tools, wood, clay, old bike parts, and cameras.

I'm interested in artificial life and machine learning, using technology to enhance our sense of space and location, and building a greener world. I'm originally from City Island in New York City.

In the past, I've worked at the Communcations Design Group in Los Angeles, done geophysics research at JPL, product management at Intuit, and full-stack web development at Amazon.

In my free time, I moonlight as a musician. I love sailing, backpacking, and riding my bike. I'm also casual photographer and downhill skateboarder.

In case you were looking for another Rupert Deese, there's my father, a painter, or my grandfather, a potter.
